It is often the questions from a child that get us thinking. We become complacent. Believing the truths of our faith without grappling with the facts of what happened on Calvary and the two days following—the greatest miracle our world has ever known!
We were in the car and the questions started. Are your kids like that too?
It started with something like “What happened when Jesus died? Did he go to heaven?” and the next thing I knew, we were neck deep in theology. Talking about how Jesus had a date with the devil to fight a battle we couldn’t fight for ourselves. Then there was “Why did it take two days? Was he fighting for us the whole time?” and “Do you think Jesus was scared?” and then came “Wow, he really battled Satan so I could go to heaven to be with him?”
That evening, I found myself still lost in wonder. A wonder I’d lost all too long ago.
Once again, I realized that this passionate King who loved wildly, who told the best stories and knelt among the broken also took my sin upon His flesh, bore a pain and anguish I cannot understand and battled on my behalf just to repair relationship with me. A relationship I caused to be broken with my petty and selfish ways.
Friends, this is the season to be wildly wooed by a Creator who came near to us, chased after us, paid the price for us and still welcomes us home when we’ve wandered away. This is the season to let your mind wonder at what unimaginable love He must have for us—for you! Celebrate big in the transforming grace that His perfect story brings to us all!
